Braid demonstrates my ability to develop eye-catching visual features that take local cultural references in a non-figurative manner and create focal points for newly regenerated spaces. It harks back to a former streetlight that stood in the space, which was a pivotal gateway within the area. It also draws, in an oblique manner on the former textile industry that characterised the area, the colour changing rotation suggesting the twisting of the twine.

This was the first occasion I worked with a local fabricator, M-tec http://www.m-tec.uk.com who are a specialist stainless steel fabricator and with whom I now regularly collaborate, to detail, structurally engineer, fabricate and install the work. This can ease the integration of the Artwork into the main scheme, by creating one simple package. Additional lighting expertise was provided by Stage Electrics, again a regular collaborator, using the most recent technology available in LED and programming. The integration into the public realm was done in liaison with Capita Symons. The scheme was delivered on time and on budget.
